Class Information
Year 5 Class Teachers: Mrs Hyland and Mrs Garthwaite
Year Group Teaching Assistants: Mrs A Squires and Mrs S Harton
Welcome to Elephant Class (Year 5)
Mrs. Garthwaite and Mrs. Hyland teach Elephant class, supported by their knowledgeable teaching assistants!
In Year 5, we spend lots of time trying to make learning stick through interesting and engaging lessons. We ensure to follow the national curriculum for the primary curriculum in England for programmes of study and attainment targets for KS2.
We study some fascinating and engaging books and become authors and broadcasters by tasks such as writing our own podcasts! Like Year 4, we have swimming lessons at a local swimming pool and get to take part in lots of other sporting events such as Mini Youth Games.
Through our history topics, we explore the lives of some fascinating ancient civilisations around the world, such as The Maya, The Romans and The Ancient Greeks. We also look at more recent history in Terms 3 and 4, learning all about World War 2. We further develop our map work skills in Geography, learning about trade around the world, whilst focusing on South America in Terms 3 and 4. We also continue to develop our understanding of the physical diversity of our wonderful planet through studying the biomes of the world.
Timetable
Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually see the structure of the day ahead.
Terms/Topic Information
Here at Cliffe Woods Primary, we produce a year group newsletter every other term, communicating the key topics that will be covered, these can be found below.
More Information about the subjects can be found on our curriculum pages.
