Welcome to Elephant Class (Year 5)

Mrs. Garthwaite and Mrs. Hyland teach Elephant class, supported by their knowledgeable teaching assistants!

In Year 5, we spend lots of time trying to make learning stick! We study some fascinating and engaging books and become authors or broadcasters by tasks such as writing our own podcasts!

Like Year 4, we have swimming lessons at a local swimming pool and get to take part in lots of other sporting events such as Mini Youth Games.

Through our history topics, we explore the lives of some fascinating ancient civilisations around the world, such as The Maya and The Ancient Greeks. We also look at more recent history closer to home, like the Tudors and the Victorians, as well as learning all about World War 2 in Term 6.  We further develop our map work skills in Geography, learning about North and South America and begin to understand the physical diversity of our planet through studying the biomes of the world.

Lastly, we ensure to follow the national curriculum for the primary curriculum in England for programmes of study and attainment targets for KS2.

Timetable

Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually see the structure of the day ahead.
